Welcome to Spanish I at Placerita Jr High! This is a year-long, high-school level course which is designed for the beginning Spanish student. The course offers you a chance to receive one year of high school foreign language experience and therefore requires a great deal of time, effort, and responsibility. (Hopefully it will be great fun too!) The course will involve reading, writing, listening, and speaking beginning Spanish with a focus on vocabulary building and grammar. In addition, you will be introduced to the geography and culture of the various Spanish-speaking countries. The textbook for this class is Descubre: Level I, and is designed to prepare you for placement in second year Spanish next year. In order to be successful in this class, you must have a desire to learn Spanish, an excellent work ethic, and a willingness to participate fully in the class! Vamos a empezar- Let's begin!

6/2/19: Feliz domingo :) I hope you are enjoying your last weekend of 8th grade! Tomorrow (lunes) we will take the second part of the multiple choice final, so be sure to study the grammar and vocab concepts from chapters 5 and 6 (for example, present progressive, direct object pronouns, preterite, TTTT, etc.). Looking forward to a great last week of school! :)
5/29/19: Feliz miercoles:) Well, tonight you should be preparing for your three writing prompts which were given in class today. Be sure you can answer all requirements of each prompt and that you are prepared to write 8 to 10 sentences on whichever one is randomly selected tomorrow. The more you prepare, the better you will do (obviously!) Buena suerte :)
/26/19: Feliz domingo :) I hope you are enjoying this Memorial Day Weekend. When you return to school on Tuesday, remember that you are turning in your textbooks (Que triste) :( and therefore you should look through them beforehand to see if there is anything you want to read/study before handing them in. We will be reviewing for the final in class on Tuesday and Wednesday. You will receive your writing prompts on Wednesday and we will be writing the Final Essay in class on Thursday. Multiple choice begins on Friday (First half) and will conclude on Monday, June 3rd. Muy buena suerte :)
5/21/19: Feliz martes :) Your final project is due on Friday and counts as an assessment. Also, begin to review Chs. 4, 5, and 6 in your text. All textbooks will be collected on Tuesday the 28th, so use the text while you have it! :)
5/9/19:) Feliz jueves :) Your Libro de Verbos is due TOMORROW (viernes). Can't wait to see them :) They will be an excellent resource as you study for your final and as you begin Span 2 next year!
5/6/19: Feliz lunes :) One more month and you will be high school students! For tonight, please be sure to watch the tutorial on verbs that function like "gustar". Also, the final copy of your verb book is due Friday. We will continue to work in class on it tomorrow. Happy Late Cinco De Mayo! Be ready to tell me tomorrow what you know about why people celebrate this day. (And no, it is not just an excuse to eat yummy food and have a party ) :)

In addition, please be sure to prepare for your Vocab 6 Quiz- memorize the infinitive verbs (conducir, conocer, etc.), the adjectives (barato, bueno, cada, etc.), the colors (anaranjado, gris, etc.), and the additional words (acabar de, anoche, anteayer, etc.).
