Welcome to Spanish I at Placerita Jr High! This is a year-long, high-school level course which is designed for the beginning Spanish student. The course offers you a chance to receive one year of high school foreign language experience and therefore requires a great deal of time, effort, and responsibility. (Hopefully it will be great fun too!) The course will involve reading, writing, listening, and speaking beginning Spanish with a focus on vocabulary building and grammar. In addition, you will be introduced to the geography and culture of the various Spanish-speaking countries. The textbook for this class is Descubre: Level I, and is designed to prepare you for placement in second year Spanish next year. In order to be successful in this class, you must have a desire to learn Spanish, an excellent work ethic, and a willingness to participate fully in the class! Vamos a empezar- Let's begin!
8/23/19: Feliz viernes (Happy Friday!) This weekend please study for your formative quiz on Monday. Be ready to write the saludos (greetings), despedidas (goodbyes), ways to ask "How are you?" and give appropriate answers, and the expresiones de cortesia (expressions of courtesy) from Vocab List 1. Buena suerte (good luck!) After the quiz we will continue working on our pairs dialogue. Que tengan un buen fin de semana (Have a good weekend!)
8/20/19: Feliz martes (Happy Tuesday!)- For tonight, please continue to work on your vocab memorization (see below). In addition, please complete pages 1 and 2 in your new workbook. Be ready to show that to me by this Friday in class. Please take a Sharpie (black will show up the best) and write your first and last name on the front of your workbook. Tomorrow we will begin creating our pairs dialogue. Que tengan una noche excelente (May you all have an excellent night!)
8/19/19: Feliz lunes (Happy Monday!)- This week we begin to learn to write in Spanish! We will be doing some in-class writing assignments and will get our workbooks to use for homework. In addition, please begin/continue memorizing the following: Your mini- autobiography, the numbers from 1 to 20, and the first four sections of your Ch. 1 Vocab list (Greetings, Goodbyes, "How are You?", and Expressions of Courtesy). Our first vocab quiz will come from those four sections on the Vocab List. If you work on memorizing/writing all of these for 15-20 minutes daily, you will find this to be a manageable task! Buena suerte (Good luck!).
8/15/19: Feliz jueves (Happy Thursday): You successfully completed day 3 of Spanish! Excelente :) For tonight, please work on memorizing your mini-autobiography, and begin to memorize the numbers 1-20. Also, if you forgot, please be sure to have your guidelines form signed and brought back tomorrow- Que tengan una noche excelente (May you all have an excellent evening) :)
8/14/19: Hola clase- Happy second day of school! Hope it was a great day! For tonight, please make sure you have your spiral, folder, and any other supplies you would like for Spanish class. Also, please ask your parents to go over the class guidelines with you, and then please have them sign and return the half sheet given in class today. :) Tell them what you have learned in class so far- how to say what your name is, how old you are, and what you are like. They will be impressed!
8/13/19- Hola clase- Bienvenidos (hello class- welcome!) I hope you have had a great first day of school! I am looking forward to working with all of you this year! For tonight, please be sure to get a college-ruled spiral notebook for notes and class practice, as well as a folder to hold handouts for each unit. Also, if you have a smart phone you can put the free app "SpanishDict.com" on it- you will find it useful (but not required). Hasta pronto (see ya soon)! :)
